TORONTO, ON, April 24, 2019 - After successfully launching its initial loose leaf tea collection, Hojicha Co. is introducing the highly versatile “Hojicha Powder”.

Hojicha is a Japanese green tea that originated in Kyoto, Japan in the 1920s. Unlike traditional Japanese green teas, hojicha is roasted after the leaves are steamed. Along with removing any bitterness, the roasting process gives hojicha its signature earthy and smoky aroma as well as its reddish-brown color.

Hojicha is particularly popular in Japan where it can be found everywhere, from beverages at Starbucks to Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and even in high end cocktails at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo.

“We’ve had requests for a ground hojicha product since day one,” said Danielle Geva, Co-Founder of Hojicha Co. “Although there was a high demand for hojicha powder, we wanted to first ensure we found the very best Kyoto had to offer.”

True to the original promise of the company to distribute the highest quality and the most authentic products, the tea leaves used to make the powder are grown in a single estate near Uji, Kyoto. Hojicha Powder is sourced directly from the tea farm in its purest form and does not undergo any additional processing, nor does it contain any additives.

The new roasted green tea product has been selected for its alluring smoky aroma, its finely ground particles, and its ability to dissolve in both hot and cold liquids. “We wanted to offer a powder so fine it could perfectly dissolve into cold water to easily enjoy hojicha all year long,” said Francois Mathieu, Co-Founder of Hojicha Co.

Hojicha Powder can be used for making tasty lattes, frappés, bubble tea, ice cream, desserts, and even for cooking savory dishes. It can substitute for matcha green tea, or be used in addition to the bright green powder counterpart.

Hojicha Powder is available for purchase on the Hojicha Co. online tea shop starting April 24th and at select trade shows throughout the year.
