With activities covering all parts of the tea sector, the heads of the Canadian, United Kingdom and United States Associations will be presenting at this year’s World Tea Expo, set to take place in Las Vegas this March.

Shabnam Weber, Tea and Herbal Association of Canada and Sharon Hall, United Kingdom Tea & Infusions Association will be speaking on March 19, 9:30am on the topic Promotion of Tea: A global Perspective.

The issues the industry faces: economic, social and environmental sustainability, cannot be addressed without more value in the supply chain. That means increasing not only the demand for tea/consumption but also understanding what we should be paying for tea. Tea represents less than 5% by value of the non-alcoholic beverage market and yet it is 25% of the volume – that is a fundamental disconnect.

Raising the profile of tea, whether it be raising awareness of its benefits for mind and body or simply enjoying it as a delicious beverage, Shabnam & Sharon feel strongly that the path forward for the industry is working collectively on a global scale.

Peter Goggi, The Tea Association of the USA will present on March 19th, 11:30am and will be examining Sustainability in Tea: Fad or Necessity?

He’ll look at whether sustainability is truly a business necessity, or is sustainability the latest in a series of initiatives to which business pays lip service? If necessary, who should pay? What do producers gain? Who benefits?

On the topic of Sustainability, you can also catch Shabnam on March 19th, 11:30am on a panel discussion Implementing Sustainability & Traceability in Tea. The panel will explore the difference between sustainability and traceability, current requirements and practices, and what gaps or further opportunities are on the horizon. The discussion will include what is impeding our progress in these areas, and what small tea businesses should be doing in terms of compliance.
