Hey there! If you need assistance, please see our home page and menu to learn how to contact us.

Curious about what it takes to brew café-quality espresso from the comfort of your own kitchen? Check out the new “Espresso at Home” course from Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea.

The class debuts September 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the SCA-certified Crimson Cup Innovation Lab, 700 Alum Creek Drive near Bexley. The roaster is also offering its popular “Coffee Brewing Basics” and “Coffee Education: Seed to Cup” courses in August and September. The espresso course repeats in October.

“We’re seeing increasing demand among Columbus coffee lovers who want to enjoy espresso without driving to their local coffee shop,” said Founder and President Greg Ubert. “The latest generation of home espresso machines puts this in reach, but there is still a learning curve.”

The same coffee professionals who teach barista classes and other skills to coffee shop owners and workers teach Crimson Cup’s consumer courses. Instructors include Nate Bell and Joe Capatosto from the Coffee Innovation lab team.

“Coffee education is a big part of our mission here at Crimson Cup, and we’re excited to expand our consumer offerings,” Ubert said. “Our classes are perfect for those who want to become coffee connoisseurs, roast their own coffee, or just order their favorite cup with confidence at any coffee shop.”

The late summer and fall consumer course schedule at the Innovation Lab includes:

Coffee Brewing Basics, August 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This class explores the science behind brewing your morning cup. Participants will learn about the main ingredients that contribute to a great cup of coffee in any setting – storing coffee, grinders, water, proper brewing temperatures, coffee-to-water ratios and pouring techniques. The class will include demonstrations of the popular Hario V60 and Chemex pour-over brewers as well as French Press and drip coffee.

Each student will leave with a Crimson Cup Mug and free drink card to redeem at Crimson Cup Coffee Houses. Cost for the two-hour course is $50. Registration is limited to eight. Students should register online.

Espresso at Home, September 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and October 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This course is for espresso enthusiasts who want to learn how to make the best coffee day after day. Crimson Cup coffee pros will cover espresso theory and tasting in a small-group setting. The course explores the variables that contribute to making great tasting espresso, including water, adequate grinders, quality home espresso machines and other tools. Students will learn how machine works and basic trouble shooting.

Each student will leave with a bag of Crimson Cup craft coffee to brew at home. The cost is $75 for the three-hour course. Registration is limited to eight. Students should register online.

Coffee Education: Seed to Cup, November 3, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This experience will include a discussion of the ways that growing conditions, processing and brewing impact coffee flavor as well as a coffee tasting.
