Muthaiga Tea Company (MTC) is a Nairobi-based tea company comprised of a passionate group of individuals eager to share the story of African tea and the communities and cultures that inspire their blends.
MTC's founder, Tehmeena, is one of East Africa's first tea sommeliers. Her love for orthodox teas began during her time in New York, working in corporate finance where she found solace in tea rooms hidden in the corners of a relentlessly busy city. She realized that although African teas are widely consumed, they lose their identity, and the rich history and cultures of this diverse continent are often overlooked.
As people become more health conscious, all the natural remedies passed down through families and shared amongst indigenous communities are becoming more popular, and MTC are committed to ensuring that the people behind the teas are as appreciated and acknowledged for their craft as the product itself. This approach guides every step of their creative process. Their teas are handpicked with minimal processing from small-scale farms across East Africa, and sustainability is prioritized at every stage of production.
Three years in and thirteen blends later, they’ve branched out into MTC Alchemy tea experiences, where they share the stories behind each blend while pairing tea with tea infused dishes. These Tea Alchemy experiences make MTC unique, and their focus on sustainable production and storytelling has forged a sense of connection with guests and a greater awareness of the incredible strides being made in the world of premium, orthodox African teas.
From the foothills of Mount Kenya to the rolling emerald hills of Rwanda, their blends celebrate African ingredients to deliver the magic of African artistry to your cup.
