Millennia TEA was named Best New Product in the category of “Healthcare OTC” by the
Retail Council of Canada at the Grand Prix Awards in Canada on June 1. The Grand
Prix Awards are the most prestigious honours in Canadian retail and consumer
packaged goods. Of the hundreds of applicants representing the country’s largest
grocery retailers and food and beverage brands, there were 121 finalists and 26
companies who took home winning awards.
Owned and operated in Saint John, NB, by co-founders Tracy and Rory Bell, the small
start-up brand is proudly the very first company in the world to produce and deliver an
edible, frozen tea product.
“This award means so much to our TEAm because a few years ago frozen edible tea
didn’t exist. We had a health scare in our family and learned about the powerful
health-promoting properties of the tea plant in its purest and most naturally-powerful
form. So we set out to share this superfood in its most real, raw form – washing and flashfreezing fresh-picked tea leaves at their nutritional prime.
We’ve had lots of struggles these past few years – creating an international supply
chain and partnering with farmer’s cooperatives in remote parts of the world, and more
recently, educating consumers about a product they know well (tea), but in a way
they’ve never considered before (fresh-frozen), and then asking them to find us in the
freezer vs. the tea and coffee aisle.
Fast forward to today and Millennia TEA has grown from our first retailer here in Atlantic
Canada, to more than 700 health and grocery locations that span the country, and
planning for our first exports to the US later this year. Most importantly, we’re hearing
from customers every week who say our frozen supercubes are helping fuel their
wellness in ways they can see and feel, which is my greatest joy and represents the
good we want to do in the world with this Company.
To sit in the room at the Grand Prix Awards, alongside the biggest grocers and brands in
the country, and be honoured as the biggest innovation in the country in the Over the
Counter Healthcare category adds a level of credibility to our category-creating
innovation that will continue to boost our TEAm’s efforts to help families across the
country live longer, stronger, more satisfying lives. We are over-the-moon appreciative
for this recognition and all it represents, “ says Co-Founder and CEO Tracy Bell.
