For years, other cities in the Pacific Northwest have hosted tea festivals that attract hundreds (sometimes thousands) of tea aficionados. From Seattle, to Portland, to San Francisco, lovers of the leaf unite for tea tasting and tea-related workshops in these much-anticipated festivals every year. And now, Eugene has its own festival too.
The inaugural Eugene Tea Festival (ETF) will take place on Sunday, May 21 from 10a-4p at the Farmers Market Pavilion and Plaza in downtown Eugene. Not coincidentally, the festival is happening on International Tea Day.
Advanced tickets are $10 and available at the Eugene Tea Festival website: www.eugeneteafest.org/. Advanced ticketholders will get first dibs on signing up for an array of workshops with tea experts and regional tea brands. Workshops are free for Festival attendees but expected to sell out quickly. To make the event accessible to all, day-of tickets to ETF will be available via a sliding scale (suggested donation $15).
“I am beyond excited to bring a tea festival to Eugene,” said festival founder Madelaine Au. “We have a rich culture of tea drinkers and tea companies here, and I am so looking forward to seeing the magic that happens when this community comes together over a cup of tea.”
The tea fest will include free tea tastings from +25 different tea brands, food carts, and a vibrant marketplace chockfull of teas, teaware, and art.
“We immediately said ‘yes’ to this festival,” said Raj Vable, founder of Young Mountain Tea, a sponsor of this year’s event. “Eugene has needed its own tea fest for a very long time, and we can’t wait to get to know our local tea drinking community even more!”
