Ceylon Tea: Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory, Sri Lanka

Sunday, April 9th 2017 @ 8:47 PM

"Halpewatte Tea Factory produces some of the most uniquely delicious single estate single origin teas to come from Ceylon. Built in 1940, during the British rule, the factory is perched 1,230 meters above sea level in the cool climes of the Uva region. Located 200 Kms from Colombo and 3 Kms from Ella, a picturesque little hamlet in the Uva region, the factory owned plantations attract many tourists who gladly pay a visit to savor a cup of delightful Halpewatte Tea while enjoying the magnificent natural beauty of the area or on their way on a hike to the Little Adam’s Peak, another major tourist attraction in the area."

When The Tea House Times visited at the end of January, 2017, we were treated to a factory tour with the manager and learned some valuable pieces of information, captured on video, to help our followers to better understand plucking, standard, withering, grading, and tasting.

Please enjoy these video clips from our visit to Halpewatte Tea Factory - Halpe Tea.
