Only Tea is Tea by Dharlene Marie Fahl

Monday, October 19th 2015 @ 11:03 AM

Guest post: poetry by Dharlene Marie Fahl - an excerpt from her upcoming poetry book,
A Passion for Tea ~ Tea Infused ~ Tea Inspired

Only Tea is Tea

It's not all tea.

Not everything dunked or plunked into hot water is tea.

Not all chopped and dried-crumpled-up bits are tea.

Only tea is tea.

All coming from one tree – one plant – one bush – that's tea!

The mystical magical plant – the Camellia sinensis.

Everything else and anything else is not tea.

There is but one consensus.

Only tea is tea.

There is the traditional tried-and-true:

 green and black.

But there are more – quite a few!

White tea, yellow tea, oolong tea, pu-erh tea, and matcha, too.

And as of late – purple tea and pink tea.

All coming from the same plant.

Only tea is tea.

Not everything we call "tea" is tea.

Berries, bark and blossoms,

sticks, seeds and stalks – not tea.

Wonderful in and of themselves.

But only tea is tea.

Not everything we make like tea is tea.

Herbals and tisanes – steeped like tea.

Do not make tea.

Only tea makes tea.
