POPE = HOPE by Dharlene Marie Fahl

Sunday, September 27th 2015 @ 12:00 AM

I am deeply inspired by watching Pope Francis on his visit here to America. . .

To see him at Ground Zero on stage surrounded by religious leaders from around the globe delivering an interfaith message about peace, brings me joy and great hope. I feel there is indeed a powerful message being delivered beyond the words – a message I echo in a smaller way  – with tea.

As I have stated, and will continue to state, I see tea as a bridge to other countries and cultures; coming together – putting aside differences – sipping in forgiveness, acceptance, and healing.

As Pope Francis sat down after his speech, a choir of delightful voices sang a familiar song, "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me."

Peace has to come from within first.

Peace is an inner state of being – one that reflects in our doing. Sipping a cup of tea in a state of tranquility and surrender is how a way for peace can be created. A mind full of clutter, anger, and resentment, cannot find a way to peace.

To surrender ones issues, traumas, bitterness, and uncertainty, can appear to be daunting – but it can certainly be simplified – with a cup of tea. Each sip can be a reminder to let thoughts go, and by the time the cup has been emptied, so can the mind be emptied of useless chatter. To sit in a place of peace is one of the most powerful and empowering things you can ever do for yourself.

We cannot extend a sincere gesture of peace to another, whether that individual is in our home or another country, when we do not know inner peace.

Every attempt, such as those we've been witnessing on the Papal visit to this country, to me, delivers a vivid message of hope and unity. To see religious leaders clad investments of vibrant colours – ceremonial attire – does seem like something to celebrate, indeed!

If someone would have walked across that stage with a tray of full cups of tea – and if everyone sipped together – something magical would have been solidified.

Perhaps one day – I will be the one carrying the tray of tea.
