Happy New Year from Ruby RedHat

Monday, January 11th 2016 @ 9:55 AM

2016 is here, and I can’t help but notice that many of my friends are making their New Year Resolutions. To be perfectly honest with you, I’m not a huge fan of resolutions. Many years ago, I created a set of rules to live by, and I prefer to revisit them annually to map out how I will incorporate them in the New Year.

These rules keep me grounded, they remind me of the things that are most important in life, and they make me truly happy.

I would like to share these rules with you, and I hope that you will find some that you can connect with and incorporate into your daily life.

Top Ten Rules for Living

1. Accept reality and live in the here and now.

2. Accentuate the positive.

3. Nurture yourself.

4. Indulge in your sense of humor.

5. Play!

6. Dress up!

7. Cultivate an openness to new things.

8. Express your creativity.

9. Exercise compassion.

10. Have courage.

How am I going to live by my rules in 2016?

- I’m going to practice being present wherever I am. I will not allow technology to distract me from enjoying the company of my family friends and Sisters.

- I will continue to write in my gratitude journal daily.

- I’m going to make time for healthy activities, but I will always make dessert a priority.

- I’m looking forward to more virtual parties on Facebook, Red Hat Society Day, the Red Hat Society’s Remember the à la Mode International Convention in San Antonio, Texas, and connecting with my Sisters daily on social media.

- I will be open to new adventures and activities that may come my way.

- I will greet each day with a positive attitude and be ready for whatever life throws my way.

How are you going to make the most of 2016? What rules will enrich your year? If “cultivating an openness to new things” speaks to you, I encourage you to consider becoming an official Member of the Red Hat Society. There’s nothing like the power of friendship to boost your quality of life.

Ta!

RUBY REDHAT is the official mascot of the Red Hat Society.  In the year 2000, a little lady named Ruby appeared, out of nowhere, on the computer screen of EQM Sue Ellen's daughter, Andrea (aka Princess Daughter). Princess Daughter was working on the first Red Hat Society website and when Ruby got wind of it, she just volunteered her services as a representative (mascot?) for the entire membership. Ruby had recently finished compiling her Top Ten (plus one) Rules for Living and she had a feeling that both she and her rules would be able to help the Red Hat Society clarify its members and its purpose to the world. We are all thrilled to have her represent the little girl inside all of us, who is ready and willing to come out and play again in every woman who invites her to do so.
