Pumpkin Spice or Bust! by Laura Childs

Monday, September 21st 2015 @ 11:42 AM

Have you noticed gilt-edged leaves etched against a cobalt blue sky?  Have you been caught up in a delicious swirl of golden leaves?  Autumn has finally arrived, one of the loveliest (in my book, anyway) seasons ever.

As this new, invigorating weather rushes in, I adore making hearty soups and chowders.  And, of course, they simply have to be accompanied by cranberry nut muffins or zucchini bread or even hearty peasant bread lavished with apple butter.

And then we’re into autumn teatime treats, as well.  Who doesn’t love honey scones, ham salad and Cheddar cheese tea sandwiches, and chicken salad tea sandwiches spread with chutney?  Of course, French baguette slices topped with creamy Brie cheese and sweet red pepper relish are awfully tasty as well.

I practically swoon thinking about all the marvelous autumn tea flavors that are available this time of year.  Pumpkin spice is de rigueur.  As are black tea blends that include cranberries, apple bits, caramel, hazelnut, and cherries.  And don’t forget your flavors of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and clove.

Some of my tea favorites include Harney & Sons Cranberry Autumn, The Republic of Tea’s Caramel Apple, and Stash Tea’s Maple Apple Cider.  So please don’t forget to take a thermos full of tea along next time you head out to a football game or picnic in the woods, or take a leaf gazing jaunt.

Enjoy!
