A BounTEAful Pause by Gail Gastelu

Let’s take a pause, shall we? I probably shouldn’t even bring up all of the not-so-cheery things going on in the world, in the news, on television, and all day long on social media. Let’s turn that frown upside down and put on a happy, helpful face. Perhaps some tea will help? Thanksgiving is coming, let’s be thankful too!

If grandma said that tea will make you feel better and you agreed, reluctant or not, you probably discovered there was some comfort in holding that warm cup in your hands. A simple cup of tea can bring a bit of happiness and instant comfort to people around the world and it is my hope that every person on earth has access to a simple cuppa whenever they need it.

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for tea – T E A – and all that it does to connect people in positive ways. For people in the business of tea, it has taken them / me / us far and wide and opened doors to some very wonderful things. People enjoy tea for better health and simply because it tastes great. Tea facilitates new friendships for many people and uniquely exposes people to a world of cultural experiences. For this, I know you are thankful too.

The last few months have been incredibly busy for me as we just launched a complete, beautiful, redesign of The TEA House Times (read about it here) (sample it here) and I have been traveling more and speaking about tea to so many more people.  When I visited Portland, Oregon for Coffee Fest in October (recap here), I was ever so honored to have been invited to tea at the home of Susan and James Patterson.

What a treat! I must tell you. And, I could go on for days here. I just need to say that it was a very welcome break for me. It’s been awhile since I have completely enjoyed afternoon tea for the pleasure of sitting and talking with friends and enjoying beautiful, delicious food without being expected to write a review!  You know Susan as Earlene Grey, author of many wonderful books including tea poetry and long-time contributor to The TEA House Times. I am thankful for her dedication all these years and for inviting me to tea!!

We were in no hurry. We talked, we laughed, and we drank tea, of course! And we explored the beautiful backyard of their home that leads to Earlene’s poetry studio hideaway! It was immensely enjoyable, every minute of it.  Check out the video (above this post - you need to be on a pc or flash browser on your device to see the video) I captured of Earlene – I mean, Susan’s musical teapot! This will make you smile. I tried very hard to leave my phone in my purse but could not stand it a minute longer, begged forgiveness of everyone at the table, and pulled it out to snap a few pictures and capture a video of her teapot.

This afternoon tea experience was the nicest thing anyone has done for me in a while. There was even a theme! The theme was Oregon grown or produced. It was fun and fabulous. Did you know that hazelnuts are also known as filberts and grown in Oregon? There were plenty to purchase in the airport gift shop on my way home!

My wish for you and yours this Thanksgiving is a relaxing day for making memories filled with favorite foods and love and companionship.  I hope that your day is A BounTEAful Pause - where you are surrounded by family and friends and the comfort of that warm cup of tea held in your hand after enjoying a meal together (put your smart phones away!).

Thank you all for sharing your joy of tea for business or pleasure!

Happy, BounTEAful, Thanksgiving to all.
