TEA.G.I.Friday - Launches Galore and New World Tea Awards

Friday, March 28th 2014 @ 12:00 AM

Happy Friday my tea friends! Lots of product launches going on and I need your help with something, so please read on. . .

For product lauches, there is no better place than NYC. And I am fortunate to be just close enough to get there by car. -- If you have read some of my blog posts, you already know that it takes me anywhere from 1-3 hours to get into New York City depending on weather and traffic. It is so unpredictable and sometimes very tiring, but I so love going into the city because it is always for a really good reason – for something fun or exciting outside my normal routine.

Last week I attended a press event for the introduction of the Iced Teas Collection for Kusmi Teas.  All in one box, Kusmi has combined several of their exclusive blends including flavored green teas and wellness blends; their famous BB Detox among them. The event was very well done and it was such a pleasure to be there. And, I didn’t mind the complimentary hand massages by Rafael from Molton Brown! This past Tuesday night Carla Hall of ABC's "The Chew" and Bravo's "Top Chef" hosted an intimate gathering at Manhattan's Haven's Kitchen. Carla took the opportunity to introduce top editors to her line of artisan "petite cookies" and debut her new partnership with Numi Organic Tea. The guests were treated to a walk-through of each cookie flavor and tea combination. As Carla says, the number one ingredient in her delightful sweet and savory cookies is love, naturally making Numi Organic Tea the perfect match. Can you guess my favorite cookies? All of the shortbreads, especially the savory ones – and they are bite size, so no guilt at all! Click here to read more.   Click here for some photos.

Just this morning, I sampled the new 30th Anniversary Tea for Harney & Sons. A fantastic black tea blend of Ceylon & India, Chinese Silver Needles, and Yunnan Golden Tips. Toasty. Comforting. Great mouth-feel. A very special tea. Click here to read more about it.

In between all of this fun, I just finalized a renewed partnership with the Red Hat Society that brings The Tea House Times to ALL of their members. Now that is what I call “Giving Voice to Tea.” This is good for all of us in the tea community as I reach further to extend your voice, your branding, your passion for tea further beyond the tea industry itself.  The Red Hat Society’s ambassador/mascot, Ruby Red Hat, will be coming on board as a guest blogger as well….this will be ready soon and will be announced through Tea Scoop.  Did you know that the Red Hat Society was founded over tea more than 16 years ago?  Approximately 20,000 chapters exist in all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 30 foreign countries with about 25 members per chapter!

What else? We are working to finalize the May/June 2014 issue of The Tea House Times, due out early to mid-April with additional distribution at World Tea Expo at the end of May.  And, yes, I know I have some work to do to catch up on “A Day in My Shoes” and other coffee chatter.  …All in good time.

THE MOST EXCITING NEWS OF ALL?  I continue to work with World Tea Expo in planning the upcoming World Tea Awards taking place aboard the Queen Mary on May 30, and I can hardly stand the excitement of it all. To be able to honor so many well deserving people in our industry – particularly those nominated by the tea community!  Nominations are rolling in, but we do need your help!  Spread the word that nominations are open. Toot your own horn and ask your audience via email and social media to nominate you/your tea business/tea book/tea blog/tea room menu/tea website! (And we wouldn't mind if you nominated The Tea House Times for Best Tea Publication :)  -- Dinner details, a full list of categories, and a button to enter the Nominations survey may be found by clicking HEREand you may enter the nominations survey as many times as you like to nominate more than one person per category.

Productive week…..I hope the same for you. Now, plan a nice relaxing weekend with your favorite cup of tea and cookies!

Have a beautiful weekend!
