Top Tea to Harvest this Month - Lemon Verbena by Cassie Liversidge

Sunday, August 3rd 2014 @ 9:19 PM

Lemon Verbena (Aloysia triphylla) is a highly scented perennial shrub and its leaves have the most amazing crisp citrus scent. To grow well, the plant likes a sunny, sheltered spot and well-drained soil.

It does not tolerate temperatures below 400F (40C), so grow it in a container that can be brought inside if necessary. By this month, the plant should be full of wonderful leaves to use for tea.

Pick off fresh leaves as and when you need. They are best used fresh, but they can be dried so that you have a supply to use throughout the year. Put three or four leaves into a tea bag or teapot. Pour on boiled water and allow the plant to steep for three minutes before serving. It is great tea to have if you are detoxing and for relaxing your body and mind. Serve chilled with ice cubes for a delicious iced tea.
