SALADA WHITE TEA ASIAN PLUM EARNS FIRST PLACE IN NORTH AMERICAN TEA CHAMPIONSHIP

Thursday, November 29th 2012 @ 9:44 AM

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. – White Tea Asian Plum from Salada Tea was honored by an independent tasting panel as the best-tasting tea in its category during the 2012 North American Tea Championship, sponsored by World Tea Media. It won first place in the White Tea Blended/Flavored Category of the Packaged Single-Service Class.

Salada White Tea Asian Plum, crafted by Salada’s blend master Chris Recchia, is made with delicate white tea leaves that are infused with the natural flavor of exotic Asian plums. One of the least processed teas, white tea retains nearly all of the natural healthful, inherent properties of tea.

“We are honored by the recognition of our White Tea Asian Plum,” said Larry Baer, senior brand manager for Salada Tea. “We take great pride in producing quality teas in all categories, and validation from an independent tasting panel proves that our tea is a great choice for tea drinkers.”

The North American Tea Championship, previously called the World Tea Championship, is an independent competition judged by professional cuppers to distinguish the highest-quality and best-tasting teas commercially available in the North American marketplace. The Packaged Single-Service Tea Class of the competition was held Nov. 13-14, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nev., and included popular tea types pre-portioned and packaged for single service, such as tea bags, sachets, instant and more.

Each submission into the competition was evaluated blind. Judges used sensory analysis to rate each of the following characteristics: brewed color, brewed aroma, brewed flavor, brewed mouth-feel and brewed harmony. An overall numerical value on a 100-point scale was then calculated based on the ratings for each characteristic. First-, second- and third-place winning teas are determined by rank.

In addition to being brewed as a beverage, this tea can be used as an ingredient in recipes, such as Salada Plum Pudding.

Salada White Tea Asian Plum retails for approximately $3.00 for a 20-count box. It is available in select grocery stores in the U.S., as well as online at www.greentea.com.
