The Tea Hive - “Where everyday is special.”

Friday, July 1st 2011 @ 11:31 AM

Twelve years in the tea room business has taught Julie Shotwell many things.

What a great support and cook her husband, T.R., is; what a wonderful staff she has, her “Tea Hive family”; and that people love to come to a place, where they can get away from the hustle and bustle of their lives, be pampered, and relax to great food, a wonderful tea selection and be surrounded by eclectic décor.  Each room has its own personality.  Oh yes, the place is haunted, but the “spirits” love the staff and customers.

While Julie would like to retire soon and pass the torch to someone else “to love it, like we do,” her customers and staff aren’t ready yet.  Soooo, even though The Tea Hive remains for sale, Julie has decided to give her customers even more reasons to visit and enjoy the experience and ambiance of the 1793 house.

The Tea Hive will be closed for several weeks, June 12-July 6.  The worker bees will be busy redecorating the Victorian Room, Linens and Lace Room, and the Garden Room.  Another exciting addition will be antiques.  Several dealers are bringing some really special items to purchase, inside and in the carriage barn as well.  As always, the gift shop will be filled with tea related items, stationery, pictures, cards, jewelry, and more.  Gifts are available throughout the themed rooms for you to enjoy and purchase.

If you do not have time to eat, you are encouraged to stop by to browse and shop.  Outside you will find many delights to soothe and amuse you in the perennial garden.

The Tea Hive is adding new menu items including new sandwiches and salads.  All beverages will now be bottomless.  So many customers love the 5-course Elegant Tea Lunch and the 3-course Tea Sampler; these will not change, but we now ask that they be pre-ordered before you visit.  Of course, The Tea Hive will continue to have wonderful homemade lemon curd and Devonshire cream - available for purchase too!

The Tea Hive offers take-out (10 percent off), and if you want to dine at The Tea Hive, but have limited time, call and everything will be ready for you when you arrive.

The Tea Hive welcomes moms, daughters, grandmas and granddaughters, friends and families.  Yes, men love the Tea Hive too, especially the big sandwiches.

The Tea Hive is also known for great soups and desserts.  There will be even more new ones for you to try.  Stop by and see and enjoy all the Tea Hive has to offer.  There is “always something to buzz about” at the Tea Hive.
